Panel Discussion on Strengthening WA’s Aged Care Workforce event – 15 November 2024
The Peel Development Commission and City of Mandurah recently hosted a dynamic event bringing together key stakeholders in the aged care sector. Peel Development Commission Deputy Chair Michelle Sidebottom showcased a compelling business case for an Aged Care Workforce and Training Centre of Innovation, a collaborative hub that will foster the groundbreaking solutions needed to attract and train the next generation of aged care professionals.
Reuben Jacob, CEO of Aged Care Research & Industry Innovation (ARIIA) presented an overview of the work ARIIA does to lead positive transformation of aged care across Australia. We’re committed to working with ARIIA and all stakeholders to foster collaboration and drive innovation in the Peel region and across WA.
Mayor Rhys Williams facilitated a panel to discuss innovative solutions to workforce challenges. The panel included the following industry experts:
- Dan Minchin – CEO Chorus
- Amanda Crook – CEO Coolibah Care
- Stephanie Buckland – CEO Amana Living
- Kerry Stack – Senior Community Support Worker, Bindjareb Aged Care Services, part of South West Aboriginal Medical Services (SWAMS).
Key takeaways from the panel highlighted the importance of:
- Culturally sensitive, on-the-job training
- Human-centered care, recognizing the value of engaged caregivers
- Collaborative innovation to address the increasing complexity of Aged Care and associated workforce challenges.
With a compelling business case now prepared, we are hopeful that the Aged Care Centre of Innovation initiative, if funded, will become a catalyst for attracting and training the skilled workforce that is crucial to the future of aged care in WA.
