The Peel Development Commission is delighted with Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan’s recent appointment of Alan Cransberg to the Peel Development Commission Board.
Mr Cransberg has been appointed as Deputy Chair, extending the Board’s comprehensive range of shared experience and expertise with his considerable corporate experience, most recently as the former Chairman and Managing Director of Alcoa Australia and President of Alcoa Global Refining.
As Deputy Chair, Mr Cransberg will work closely with Chair Paddi Creevey to deliver on Peel’s vision as a progressive, prosperous and dynamic region with a culture of care. This vision of Peel is one that Mr Cransberg wholly supports and is enthusiastic about applying his knowledge, experience and personal regard for the region to the work that will make this vision a reality.
“I choose to live in this region and have worked in this region for many years. It is a fantastic place to live and work and I have previously held professional roles in Pinjarra, Waroona and Mandurah. I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to work with the people of the region as well as numerous other stakeholders, including the Government, to see what we can do to continue to grow the region in a sustainable way.
“We need to find the right balance between the economic growth and protecting the social and environmental characteristics that attract people to this area. There is enormous untapped potential in this region in many areas and I look forward to working with the Peel Development Commission to work collaboratively with other people who care about the future of the Peel region,” Mr Cransberg said of his appointment.
Mr Cransberg has demonstrated a strong values based approach with an emphasis on unity, data based decisions, action, governance and results through his corporate experience and his leadership positions on a number of boards including the Wirrapanda Foundation and Corporation, Black Swan State Theatre Company, John Swire and Sons Pty Ltd, UWA Business School, SAS Resources Trust and Ace Mining Solutions.
This experience will be well utilised in maximising Peel’s opportunities in export driven industries of agriculture, manufacturing and tourism, leading to accelerated local economic growth and business opportunities for the region.
The Peel Development Commission Board has an extensive range of shared experience and expertise in this regard and through the Peel Business Park and other significant projects centred around trails development, transport infrastructure, equine development, tourism growth, and health & aged care in the region, the Board is confident the Commission can help contribute towards the State’s priorities of building a strong economy and regional prosperity.
Increasing export competitiveness and growing local jobs using innovative technologies and collaborative, progressive thinking is going to be key to leveraging business opportunities and delivering results to the region.
