Achieving sustainable economic growth and strong and resilient communities is something that requires planning from all levels. For our nation to grow and thrive, our states of course, must thrive. Our diverse regions throughout Western Australia, and the equally diverse communities of which they are comprised, play a key role in shaping the future of our state and our nation.

In my role as Chair of the Peel Development Commission, I work with the Board and Staff to ensure the that the Government direction of creating more jobs, diversifying our economy and reflecting the needs of our region, are put into practice. I am now delighted to have received an official appointment to the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) in the position of nominee of the Regional Minister.

WAPC is Western Australia’s peak representative body for land-use planning and development covering urban, rural and regional development matters. WAPC reserves a Board position for a representative to be nominated by the Regional Minister so that the regions are not forgotten and can be represented in the planning for the whole of the state.

This appointment represents a fantastic opportunity to represent regional perspectives and sensitivities in the context of strategic State planning. We appreciate how important integrated planning is to successful communities and I am certainly keen to learn from, and work with others, to contribute to good outcomes for all of our regions and their communities across Western Australia.
