This month I attended the final Regional Development Council meeting for the year and all the Chairs of the Regional Development Commissions had the opportunity to join the Hon. Governor of Western Australia for lunch which was a real privilege.

I also got to meet this month with the Trade Commissioner for WA (Indonesia) where she provided a valuable briefing to us on the Indonesian economic opportunities agreement and tourism market. It was very useful information and a great help to us with our stakeholders in the region. There are certainly many opportunities in Indonesia and growing interest in the market. There will be more to follow up on regarding this in the new year.

Indonesian Trade Commissioner's visit

As this is the final e-news for 2020, reflecting back on 2020, it was quite the year, wasn’t it? For many this year has brought significant challenge and ongoing change. I hope everyone however can find and celebrate some positives too this Christmas.

For me, it’s been the way the people of our region have shown their character and resilience in their willingness to reach out for help and to help others, and not only cope with unchartered circumstances, but to adapt and change gears to continue well beyond the immediate.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered and contributed throughout 2020. To our service men and women, our volunteers, our business owners, community leaders, policy makers and government representatives, the work you do matters and it’s making our region strong for the future.

On a personal note, I would like to thank my fellow Board members and the Commission staff for their contributions over the past year and for their dedication to the regional & economic development of the Peel region.

I wish you all a happy and safe Christmas. I will be taking a well earned break during the month of January, but am looking forward to a 2021 that brings further opportunity and prosperity for us all.
