Three-day long event in Cairns offers valuable opportunity for Aboriginal tourism businesses to meet, learn from and form new partnerships with wholesale and retail operators.
The Peel Development Commission was pleased to provide a sponsorship of $3,000 to Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC) for Dwellingup based tour operator Maitland Hill to attend the National Australian Indigenous Tourism Conference (AITC) in Cairns on 16-18 June 2022. The event is hosted by WAITOC, with the sponsorship covering the cost of flights, accommodation and event registration.
Following WAITOC’s expression of interest in May 2022 to the five Peel based Indigenous tourism operators, the Commission supported their recommendation to award the sponsorship to Maitland Hill, owner and operator of Kaarak Dreaming Maitland’s Cultural Tours.
Indigenous tourism support and development is a key priority of the Peel Development Commission, and this opportunity will provide Maitland with an excellent forum to meet and learn from other Aboriginal tourism businesses and to showcase his own tourism product.
The 2022 theme is ‘The Time is Now – Let’s Ignite’, and AITC will offer delegates thought-provoking insights and you’ll gain knowledge from tourism experts and industry-leading organisations from right across Australia.
More information about the conference can be found on the AITC website.
