Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – 23 January 2025
It was great to have the Hon Don Punch MLA, Minister for Regional Development; Disability Services; Fisheries; Seniors and Ageing; Volunteering in the Peel region to help cut the ribbon on the re-opening of the newly renovated Peel Development Commission office in the Mandurah CBD.
Joined by the Commission’s new chair, Myri Riddy along with Silverleaf Investments, who funded the project and Buckingham Redevelopments who delivered the building renovations, the Commission now has a new, more modern and accessible office building including a new foyer with lift and disability compliant unisex bathrooms. The Minister congratulated all involved with the renovation from the team of architects, designers, builders, project managers and raft of local trades who helped transform the building.
The Minister re-iterated the importance of public authorities such as the Commission having accessible and inclusive spaces to support the excellent work regional Commissions do in building more sustainable, vibrant and liveable communities.
The new foyer transformation looks very modern and streamlined with the neighbouring shops having much better street appeal. The Commission also has a newly tiled veranda/balcony space upstairs where a morning tea was held with guests following the ribbon cutting.
The Minister also took a moment to say a few words and acknowledge one of the PDC Board members who just recently concluded her term in December 2024 after six amazing years’ service to the Board – and that is, former Deputy Chair, Michelle Sidebottom. Michelle has been an absolute asset to the Commission over the past six years as a Community representative. Her professional experience, particularly in the tourism and workforce development sectors and her valuable strategic advice to the Board on a range of matters, has been instrumental in a number of projects and initiatives being funded and progressed through the Commission.
Commission CEO, Andrew Ward also acknowledged the Minister’s outgoing Senior Policy Adviser, Shelley Court who is retiring and taking a break to travel. Her support and work with all nine Commissions across the state has been invaluable and she will be sorely missed.
The Commission looks forward to welcoming stakeholders and members of the community to the newly renovated office space.
