Mandurah 14 December 2016…Infrastructure investment through a range of more than 40 projects identified for potential development is the focus of the Peel Development Commission’s Tourism Economic Development Infrastructure Strategy launched today.
Chairman Paul Fitzpatrick said the Commission sought to recommend tourism infrastructure that would deliver strong regional economic benefits and provide jobs.
“The Strategy is the result of extensive stakeholder consultation and establishes nature based and adventure tourism as investment priorities,” said Paul Fitzpatrick. “It underpins the Tourism Excellence theme of the Peel Regional Investment Blueprint which we launched exactly a year ago.”
Priority infrastructure initiatives identified include the Dwellingup trails and adventure hub, regional and National Parks investment and marine/waterways adventures.
“By 2020, Peel will have leveraged its natural assets and multiplied the region’s tourism capacity, establishing it as a sustainable and attractive place to invest and visit. Among other elements, the infrastructure initiatives include trail hubs and networks, waterway adventures, accommodation nodes as well as event, tourism and hospitality innovation – which is why we also identified private investment as a very critical part of the way forward.”
“The Commission delivered the infrastructure strategy after consultation and engagement with over 65 individual and multiple business and agency stakeholders and I would like to acknowledge the contribution made by the steering committee which included the Peel region’s peak tourism marketing body; Mandurah and Peel Tourism Organisation (MAPTO), RDA Peel, Peel CCI, state agencies and our five Peel local governments,” said Paul Fitzpatrick.
The Peel Development Commission has delivered over $1,000,000 worth of Royalties for Regions funding to tourism projects in the Peel region via two rounds of Community Chest Funds and Regional Grants Schemes.
