Peel Food Zone Land Suitability Assessment & Mapping

A study commissioned for the Peel Food Zone has identified areas suitable for intensifying agriculture in the investigation area and will inform the future management strategy of the zone.

The study confirmed the east is suitable for growing a variety of crops and pastures including vegetables and fruit trees where water supplies allow, while the west is best suited to closed systems of agriculture such as glasshouses.  New methods of farming in the area are needed to protect the wetlands of the Peel-Yalgorup System.

Food Industry Transition Program

A strategy commissioned from GHD and completed late in 2017 is assisting with facilitating decisions by existing WA and Australian food producers and related support industries to relocate to the Peel Business Park.

The Food Industry Transition Program identified processors and manufacturers in industrial areas of Perth under planning re-development pressure and developed infrastructure servicing and planning profiles of these businesses.

The report will be used to encourage and support these food businesses to establish in the Peel.
