The $49.3 million Transform Peel project devised, developed and delivered by the Peel Development Commission is open for business and is already attracting attention from potential investors.
Chairman Paul Fitzpatrick said program partner LandCorp have appointed a marketing agent who is identifying potential tenants for the business park and that the Transform Peel Program Management Office are already active in investment attraction in the agri-food business sector.
“We are definitely ‘Open for Business’ and are working closely with the Department of State Development, the Department of Regional Development, the Department of Food and Agriculture and other state government and local agencies. The Commission has constructed an investment attraction matrix and has already hosted a Singaporean delegation with a view to investment in the Peel Food Zone. We are in dialogue with other national and international investors, and are very excited at the reception the Transform Peel launch news has received,” he said.
Funding for Phase One of Transform Peel has been secured via the State Government’s Royalties for Region’s initiative. This is being applied to deliver key headworks infrastructure to the Peel Business Park as well as the design of the Peel Food Zone and the Peel Integrated Water Initiative.
Last month, a joint delegation from the Peel Development Commission and Regional Development Australia (RDA) Peel made presentations in Canberra to the Commonwealth Government at ministerial meetings with the heads of Innovation, Environment and Employment portfolios. “These departments have funding streams which our Transform Peel program is eligible to apply for and the Commission had a very favorable reception by the senior ministers and advisors they briefed,” said Paul Fitzpatrick.
“I need to clarify and reiterate that Transform Peel Program will be not be affected by the Federal Building Better Regions Fund boundaries as this funding does not impact on our program. Having said that, the Peel Development Commission supports the view that the boundaries are unacceptable for Peel and should be re-adjusted to align with the State Government regional boundaries. We are a region and this should be recognised by the Federal Government. The Peel Development Commission raised the boundary issue at our recent ministerial meetings in Canberra and we were given an undertaking these concerns would be addressed,” he stated.
